Resources & Helpful Tools
These are some of the online resources that I've found particularly helpful in my research.I've marked my favorite sites with **All of the links below lead to external websites.
- FamilySearch - Must sign up for a free account to access. Free genealogy records; they have many of the same records that Ancestry paywalls, such as international birth, death, marriage, and census records. ;)
- ** FamilySearch Full Text Search - Must have a free FamilySearch account to access. A free AI tool that can "read" text (both script and cursive) in order to help you find genealogical records on FamilySearch that have not yet been transcribed and/or indexed by a person. I have found many "forgotten" records using this tool.

- Misc. Resources for Union Co., NC
- ** NC Historical Scans - Free account required to download images. High quality images of documents of interest to researching NC history and genealogy, such as county court minutes, tax lists, land grants, and even materials held by individuals; many of these documents are not available anywhere else online.
- Carolinas Genealogical Society - Paid membership required for members-only resources. Based in Monroe, NC.
- DeadFred - Free unidentified family photos database. Did you inherit photos from your great-great grandmother and you have no idea who anyone is? Search by surname, location, and more
- The Family History Photo Archive - Free family history photo archive; search by surname, place name, or subject
- North Carolina Digital Collections
